During the past two years, the Nyumburu Cultural Center hosted two graduation ceremonies honoring Black Undergraduates and Graduate Students who received either Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral Degrees. Both of these events (May 11, 2017 and May 14, 2018) were attended by 200 to 300 Graduates along with UMD Faculty and Staff, family, friends, and community members. Graduates received the coveted Kente Stole, Nyumburu Pen, and Alumni Pin.
The Nyumburu Cultural Center (ODI) thanks its co-sponsors. The following departments and colleges were instrumental in making the graduation ceremonies an overwhelming success: African American Studies Department, College of Arts & Humanities, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, College of Education, Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Undergraduate Studies, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and The Graduate School.
